Bob Setzer, Jr, is pastor of Knollwood Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Beginning in June of this year, he and his wife Bambi began a two-month sabbatical journey in the United Kingdom exploring the roots of Celtic spirituality. The title of this blog is inspired by the early Celtic devotion to the Beloved Disciple, traditionally thought to be John, resting his head upon the chest of Jesus at the Last Supper (John 13:23-25 (KJV). This image has been widely popularized by J. Philip Newell in his excellent introduction to Celtic spirituality titled, Listening for the Heartbeat of God.

Bob (and Bambi): tnx for the notification regarding the blog. Wonderful to read it. Several of us here are talking about a trip to Iona, so we are giving in to the sin of “envy” at the moment. Glad you got to experience such things. It has been my privilege to take groups to Scotland and England and to visit Ireland myself. I am familiar with many of the things you mentioned, but have not yet been to Iona. I did marvel at the Book of Kells on display in the old library archives at the Universiy in Dublin, which, of course, whetted my apetite for visiting Iona. Someday…..someday…..!
